Meet The Artist

SHARIFAH BAHIYAH JAMALULLAIL

A self-taught artist based in Malaysia, my work is an embodiment of celebration, empowerment and cultural richness where every canvas tells a tale of female strength and beauty.

Tracing my maternal lineage to the Royal family of Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia, I honour Minangkabau customs and traditions that define Negeri Sembilan's rich cultural heritage.

Extraordinary and distinct, Minangkabau culture is defined by its unique matrilineal system where inheritance and property are passed down through the women, underlining their important role in preserving their heritage.

In homage to my roots, my artwork captures the essence of my heritage. Debuting with my Monochrome Collection, I spotlight the iconic Minangkabau headdresses, which symbolise feminism and women's empowerment.

My hope is for viewers to engage in a meaningful dialogue about the importance of preserving our cultural heritage, the crucial role women play in societies and to inspire feelings of joy, optimism and a sense of empowerment in each viewer.

Each piece I create goes on a journey, weaving a visual story that links the past and present by blending tradition with modern flair. My art is driven by a belief in the progressive power of femininity and a firm conviction that the future is undeniably female.

Welcome to my world where heritage, empowerment and art seamlessly come together.
